Skin Surgery Information Your skin surgery will be performed under local anaesthetic. The skin is initially cleaned. Then, local anaesthetic is injected into and around the area that is going to be removed. This may sting initially, but the anaesthetic effect is rapid. Once the affected skin is removed, the area will be stitched. Sometimes we also use ‘steristrips’. These are sticky surface dressings that provide extra strength and promote wound healing. Whilst every attempt will be made to produce a good cosmetic outcome, if malignancy is suspected, our priority is to completely remove the affected area. All skin surgical procedures will result in scar formation. There are many variables that determine the appearance of scars. Therefore, we can make no guarantee about the final appearance of your scar. We will, however, provide you with aftercare instructions to obtain the best possible outcome.
